Multifactorial Perspectives of Servant Leadership Impacting Professional Services Employee Engagement

Abstract

Employee engagement is a critical challenge in high-pressure industries where only 23% of employees globally are engaged. In professional service sectors such as consulting, banking, law, and IT, engagement is often hindered by long hours, high stress, and burnout. Servant leadership is recognized as a key driver of engagement with its impact shaped by other factors such as work culture, compensation, employee agility, innovation, and career development. This study is a systematic review of the literature identifying two key themes on servant leader attributes and their direct impact on engagement, plus the mediating and external factors that play a role in employee engagement. These findings are crucial for organizations seeking to enhance engagement and performance. Future research can include quantitative surveys to measure the relationship between servant leadership and engagement, as well as qualitative case studies to provide deeper insights into employee experiences under servant leadership. These insights can guide organizations in developing leadership training and policies to improve workforce engagement and organizational success.
