Transformational Leadership: Boosting Well-Being and Reducing Burnout in Remote Work

Abstract

The transition to remote work has led to challenges such as blurred work-life boundaries, social isolation, and increased job demands, significantly contributing to employee burnout. Research indicates 69% of remote workers experience burnout due to extended hours and digital fatigue (Shirmohammadi et al., 2022). This study is a systematic review of the literature on the role of transformational leadership in addressing employee burnout by fostering motivation, psychological well-being, and engagement by synthesizing scholarly articles retrieved from Academic Search Ultimate and PsycINFO. Key themes uncovered include leadership effectiveness in remote settings (Greimel et al., 2023), psychological safety (Spagnoli et al., 2021), digital communication (Popovici & Popovici, 2020), and work-life balance (Rustan et al., 2024). These themes are critical for enhancing employee satisfaction, reducing occupational stress, and maintaining productivity. The findings underscore the necessity of empathetic leadership, equitable workload distribution, and flexible policies to support remote workforce well-being (Makowski, 2023). Future research can employ quantitative surveys to measure the direct impact of transformational leadership on employee engagement and qualitative studies utilizing in-depth interviews to explore employees’ lived experiences.
