Servant Leadership Impact on Cross-cultural Conflict in North American Organizations

Abstract

Cross-cultural conflict in North American organizations presents a considerable challenge, with diverse teams experiencing 30% more interpersonal conflicts than homogeneous teams, leading to diminished productivity and morale (Jit et al., 2016). This issue impacts organizational effectiveness, team cohesion, and workplace harmony. Servant leadership, characterized by trust, empowerment, humility, and active listening, has emerged as a promising approach to improving conflict resolution in multicultural contexts. This systematic review analyzes the role of servant leadership in fostering psychological safety, enhancing team collaboration, and promoting accountability in conflict management. Key themes identified include the importance of humility, altruism, and empowerment in resolving conflicts and improving organizational outcomes. The review collects relevant literature from databases like ProQuest, EBSCOhost, and Google Scholar. The findings underscore the significant impact of servant leadership on fostering inclusivity and improving conflict resolution in cross-cultural settings. For future research, quantitative studies using survey methodologies are recommended to assess the statistical impact of servant leadership on conflict resolution outcomes. Additionally, qualitative phenomenological studies should examine employees’ firsthand experiences in organizations that implement servant leadership. These approaches can contribute to a deeper understanding of how servant leadership influences conflict resolution in diverse organizational environments.
