The Canadian healthcare system is experiencing severe workforce shortages and rising burnout rates with over 60% of healthcare professionals reporting burnout. This issue leads to decreased job satisfaction, higher turnover rates, and compromised patient safety. Contributing factors include systemic inefficiencies, fragmented policies, and excessive workloads, making immediate interventions essential. Strategies such as workload optimization, improved mental health support, and pan-Canadian licensing reforms have been identified as key solutions to sustaining healthcare delivery and enhancing workforce resilience. Addressing burnout is critical not only for healthcare professionals’ well-being but also for the long-term stability and efficiency of the healthcare system. This study employs a systematic review methodology to collect, evaluate, and synthesize findings from multiple studies, offering an in-depth, evidence-based understanding of burnout in Canadian healthcare. Relevant sources from major databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL were retrieved, focusing on workforce preparedness, policy reform, and mental health support. Insights from these themes are crucial in mitigating burnout and ensuring workforce sustainability. Future research can incorporate quantitative cross-sectional studies to assess burnout prevalence and qualitative phenomenological studies to explore healthcare workers’ lived experiences. Additionally, expanding research on technological advancements, cultural diversity, and leadership models would provide a more comprehensive understanding of the burnout crisis and guide effective interventions.
