Leadership Traits and Behaviors Impact on Employee Performance in Canadian Hotels

Abstract

Leadership traits and behaviors have a substantial impact on staff performance in the Canadian hotel industry, where worker motivation, engagement, and retention are critical problems. According to Gallup (2023), around 45% of hotel employees in Canada are disengaged at work, and turnover rates in the hospitality industry top 30% each year. The dynamic nature of hospitality necessitates leaders who can effectively drive motivation and job satisfaction. This study examines the available literature on transformational, transactional, and servant leadership to determine their impact on employee performance in Canadian hotels. Peer-reviewed articles and industry reports were compiled using key databases such as Google Scholar, EBSCO, and ProQuest. Employee engagement, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention are all emerging themes. These topics are critical to understanding how leadership styles affect staff well-being and productivity. This systematic review combines findings from several studies to provide comprehensive insights into leadership effectiveness in Canadian hotels. Future research can include quantitative surveys to assess the influence of leadership across different hotel segments, as well as qualitative interviews to delve into workers’ lived experiences under various leadership styles. Addressing these deficiencies can improve leadership development programs and workplace performance in the Canadian hotel industry.
