This study investigates the influence of servant leadership perspectives on the worklife balance of graduate students in a small Canadian university. The research focuses on the pressures faced by students who balance academic demands and work responsibilities, and how these pressures impact their well-being. A questionnaire was distributed to graduate students in a small Canadian university. After content analysis of the narrative text data, the findings highlighted the significant role of empathy in helping graduate students manage stress. Empathy, especially from family, faculty, and peers, was seen as essential for alleviating pressure and fostering a supportive environment. Participants noted empathy enhanced understanding, support, and community within academic settings. Active listening and effective communication emerged as vital components in supporting graduate students in the small Canadian university. Respondents emphasized clear communication and attentive listening from family, faculty, and peers led to better understanding and improving overall well-being. Active listening also validated student experiences, strengthened relationships, reduced misunderstandings, and facilitated smoother navigation of academic and personal challenges. Based on the findings, recommendations include fostering empathy and active listening within academic communities to create a more inclusive and supportive environment, contributing to better work-life balance for graduate students. Suggested directions for future research include exploring student support systems against servant leadership principles.
