The perception and impact of servant leadership in caring for homeless and vulnerably placed individuals in downtown Vancouver, Canada is explored in this action research study involving questionnaire responses from twelve support workers actively assisting the homeless population. The research uses a quantitative data approach, employing closed-ended questionnaires to gather quantitative data on support workers’ perceptions of servant leadership and its implementation in interactions with the homeless, care provision, and support dynamics in the downtown homeless community. Participants shed light on servant leadership’s effectiveness in supporting the homeless and its correlation with empathy, trust, and understanding. Evidence-based recommendations emerge to enhance the integration of servant leadership principles into support worker interventions, contributing to a more compassionate and impactful approach in homeless care not only in Vancouver, Canada but in similar metropolitan centers facing homelessness challenges. Servant leadership emphasizes empathy, compassion, and social responsibility, and holds promise for homeless care. Future research can examine the enduring impacts of integrating servant leadership principles on the well-being and outcomes of homeless individuals, encompassing aspects such as mental health, empowerment, and community integration. Furthermore, exploring the moderating factors of organizational culture and support systems in homeless care settings may enhance the comprehension of servant leadership’s effectiveness, contributing to its broader applicability and success.
