Human Resources and Leadership Strategies to Engage a Multigenerational Workforce

Abstract

Human resources (HR) professionals and organizational leaders face the challenge of engaging employees with diverse work values, expectations, motivation, and communication styles. Studies show 75% of the global workforce are Millennials and Generation Z, necessitating adaptive HR strategies. Employee engagement directly impacts retention, with organizations experiencing up to a 24% reduction in turnover when engagement strategies align with generational needs. Understanding generational engagement trends enables HR leaders to foster inclusive cultures, optimize team collaboration, and improve employee satisfaction, ultimately enhancing organizational performance. This study is a systematic review of 30 scholarly articles from key databases such as JSTOR, and Google Scholar. The key themes uncovered were generational differences, effective leadership strategies, and inclusive workplace cultures. These themes highlight critical factors influencing workforce productivity, employee satisfaction, and retention. Future research can include quantitative studies using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) and qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews to enhance understanding of effective multigenerational engagement strategies.
